The City Boy Movement (CBM), Ekiti State Chapter, has unveiled Dr. Olufemi Owolabi, Senior Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor on Research and Documentation, as the keynote speaker for its September 17 Town Hall Meeting in Ado-Ekiti.

The engagement, which forms part of activities marking the inauguration of the movement’s Ekiti State Executive, will hold at NTS Event Hall, Fajuyi, Ado-Ekiti, under the theme, “Leaving No One Behind.”

Owolabi’s selection reflects the organisers’ intention to bring perspectives from journalism, research, public policy and governance into a youth-focused conversation on leadership, skills development, political participation and the future of young people in Nigeria.

A distinguished journalist, researcher and public servant, Owolabi currently serves as Senior Special Assistant to Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on Research and Documentation.

Before joining the public service, he held senior editorial and investigative positions in the Nigerian media, including Editor and Head of Investigation at THISDAY, Head of Investigation at Ripples Nigeria and Investigative Reporter at Sahara Reporters.

He is also a Chevening Scholar and holds multiple master’s degrees, including a degree from the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, United Kingdom. He also holds a PhD from Leeds City University.

The organisers said his professional and academic background would provide a valuable foundation for conversations around youth development, leadership, governance, public policy and the need for young Nigerians to prepare for emerging opportunities.

Chairman of the inauguration committee, Mr. Tiwaloluwa Omope, said the choice of Owolabi was deliberate, given his experience across journalism, research and the public sector.

“The Town Hall is designed to challenge young people to understand that the train of opportunity is already moving, and they must be prepared to get on board. Beyond politics, we want our youths to develop the right skills, build the ambition to succeed and position themselves to take advantage of the opportunities emerging in Nigeria.

“For us, ‘Leaving No One Behind’ is more than a theme. It is a call to awareness, readiness and action. As Nigeria moves forward, Ekiti youths must move with it. Every young person should see a place for themselves in the future we are building, and our responsibility is to ensure they have the knowledge, confidence and opportunities to take that place,” Omope said.

The September 17 programme will also feature street engagements and the unveiling of the movement’s state secretariat as part of activities marking the inauguration of the Ekiti State Executive.

The event forms part of CBM’s broader youth mobilisation and grassroots engagement efforts in Ekiti State, with the movement also supporting the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The organisers said the keynote address is expected to set the tone for conversations around youth participation, leadership, skills development, opportunity and governance, in line with the theme of the engagement.
